Amanda Johnson's work for the Design for Health project focuses on creating model ordinances, drafting comprehensive plan language, developing the web site, building the technical assistance library, and directly working with the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota community funding recipients on creating healthier cities via design thresholds. She brings with her an interest in bridging the gap between academic research and the priorities of both the private and public sectors. .

Prior to joining the Design Center, Amanda was a Research Assistant to Dr. Ann Markusen, the Director of the Project on Regional and Industrial Economics at the Humphrey Institute, University of Minnesota. The work focused on occupation approaches to understanding arts-related economic development by studying such topics as artists' centers and the development crossover between the nonprofit, for-profit, and community art sectors. Amanda is also the co-author of the Artists' Centers: Evolution and Impact on Careers, Neighborhoods, and Economies.
