City of Apple Valley
Apple Valley is a vibrant community in Dakota County with a population of 50,000 residents. The city has a compact downtown core with a good existing trail and sidewalk network. With funding from BlueCross BlueShield of Minnesota’s Active Community Planning program, the community has expanded their comprehensive planning process by addressing health and active living through out the plan.
As part of the comprehensive planning process, the city and their consultant, HKGI, worked with the community to form a new Vision for Apple Valley that identifies healthy and active living as a central part of the community’s future.The plan will incorporate health and active living principles, such as: physical activity, safety, accessibility, air and water quality, food access and complete streets.
