At the University of Liverpool, Alex Scott Samuel serves as a senior lecturer and director of three research units within the University's Division of Public Health. Under Scott-Samuel's leadership, EQUAL undertakes commissioned research projects related to health inequalities, including the development of a health equity audit methodology. At the Liverpool Public Health Observatory, Scott Samuel and other researchers work to support the implementation of the health policies and strategies outlined by the National Health Service of England. Finally, as director of IMPACT, he leads their study of Health Impact Assessment methodology and evaluation, and undertakes HIA training and consultancy. Scott-Samuel has published widely on health inequalities, health politics and policy, health impact assessment, and more recently on patriarchy and health.
Scott Samuel was a co-founder of the Politics of Health Group. Prior to his work at the University of Liverpool, he worked as a consultant in public health with the Liverpool Health Authority, and he helped establish the Public Health Alliance (now called the United Kingdom Public Health Association). In addition, Scott-Samuel also served as a founding editor of the journal Radical Community Medicine (now called Critical Public Health).
Alex Scott Samuel holds medical degrees from the University of Liverpool as well as a Master of Community Health and is a Fellow of the UK Faculty of Public Health.
