Marya Morris, AICP

Senior Research Associate, American Planning Association, Chicago, Illinois

Marya Morris is a senior research associate at the national office of the American Planning Association (APA) in Chicago, Illinois. She serves as director of their “Planning and Designing the Physically Active Community,” a research project sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, as well as director of “Planning and Public Health” a collaborative project with the National Association of County and City Health Officials, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Both are designed to promote cooperation between urban planners and public health practitioners.

Morris has authored numerous reports and articles on smart growth and urban design including: Incentive Zoning: Meeting Urban Design and Affordable Housing Objectives (APA 2001) and Creating Transit-Supportive Land-Use Regulations (APA 1997).

Morris received a Master of Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has a B.A. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
