This project created PowerPoints to introduce active living concepts and measurement techniques to urban planners, architects, and landscape architects.
In addition, three self-guided tours feature local food environments, open space, and pedestrian oriented development.
The materials were sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota in conjunction with the Planners Network 2005 Conference.
The downloadable PowerPoint suite, below, is a slightly updated version of a suite created in June 2005 and represents the state of knowledge to date on the built environment and physical activity. The PowerPoint is protected from changes with a password. To open, please download the 33 MB ZIP file to your computer (see the downloads below). Unzip the file, saving all of the files in a single directory. Launch the Play.bat file or 00_StartShow.ppt file. It will launch the other files as needed. You need to keep all the files in the same directory for this to work.
If you open any of the PowerPoint files directly, you may be prompted for a password. Open the file in read-only mode instead (there should be a clearly labeled button on the prompt).
The software that Macs need to zip and unzip files is called ZipIt and can be found (along with details about the software) here.
The software that PCs use is called WinZip and the Web site is here.
For updated information on the results of the Twin Cities Walking Study and other research on the built environment and physical activity see our Walkability page.
