Arden Hills

Arden Hills is a short distance from downtown Minneapolis and downtown Saint Paul . This mostly-developed suburb is home to 10,000 people, and it is also a major job center. The northern one-third of the city is a former ammunitions plant. The City is in the initial stages of redeveloping a portion of this site to create a balanced environment for work, living, and recreation.

Arden Hills is using the funds from the BCBSMN Active Community Planning grant to incorporate active community planning principles into the city's comprehensive plan.

Project update:

Arden Hills is working with HKGI and Bolton & Menk to incorporate the following topics into the housing and transportation portions of their comprehensive plan: accessibility, physical activity, safety, water quality, and air quality.

At their first community meeting in August for their comprehensive plan, residents took a survey that included a questions about mass transit, mixed use, and pedestrian and bicycle opportunities. Participants also played the Arden Hills Game that resembles a visual mini-SWOT analysis. In the fall, the Parks, Trails and Recreation Committee (PTRC) is bringing a planning and health specialist to facilitate a discussion about accessibility, physical activity, and safety in relation to their comprehensive planning process.
