City of Excelsior
The City of Excelsior, located 20 minutes from downtown Minneapolis on the southern shores of Lake Minnetonka, has a population of 2,397 residents. The city has a compact downtown well-defined by surrounding neighborhoods, Lake Minnetonka, and State Highway 7. In addition, the Southwest Regional Light Rail Transit Trail, used by bicyclists and walkers, passes through downtown Excelsior.
The City of Excelsior is using funds from the BCBSMN Active Community Planning grant to incorporate active living principles into their 2008 comprehensive plan update and zoning ordinance.
