Active Living Ramsey County (ALRC) was formed in 2005 to create and promote environments that make it safe and convenient for people to integrate physical activity into their daily routines. ALRC represents a collaborative effort among elected officials and representatives from 18 cities, 1 township, Ramsey County departments and other organizations, schools, and residents of Ramsey County. ALRC works to bring about and sustain changes in design, transportation, and public/private policies to cultivate and support a way of live that promotes physical activity.
Active Living Ramsey County is using funds from the BCBSMN Active Community Planning grant to advance their work providing leadership and coordination to help their partners embrace diverse policies and programs that support active living principles.
Project update:
The ALRC partnership recently underwent a strategic planning process to identify its health-related themes for the community. They include improving health, identifying physical infrastructure and policies, and increasing community engagement. The next step in this process will be to prioritize strategies to support these topics.
The Ramsey County Board recently approved the 1,000 Benches project initiated by ALRC. The benches along corridors provide "pathways to health" to encourage and physical activity throughout the county. There are pilot projects in the City of New Brighton and the City of St Paul - Rondo neighborhood.
